Accessibility-focused tub-to-shower conversion with curbless entry and bench seat for a Dewey-Humboldt homeowner.
The problem
Aging-in-place homeowner needed a walk-in shower with zero threshold, a bench seat, and grab bar blocking — designed to accept future ADA hardware without opening walls again.
Our approach
- Demo tub, surround, and subfloor to joists
- Sister and reinforce joists for 1/4-in-per-foot slope to linear drain
- Install blocking behind future grab bar locations (documented for the homeowner)
- Full waterproofing with sheet membrane and pre-slope
- Set linear drain and pour mortar bed
- Large-format tile with mitered curbless transition
- Thermostatic mixing valve with hand-held wand and fixed head
Materials & specs
- Waterproofing
- Sheet membrane, full pan
- Drain
- Linear, tile-in
- Tile
- 24×48 large-format porcelain

Outcome
Passed inspection first pass. Blocking documentation lets the homeowner add ADA grab bars anytime without opening walls.
